Monleras Work Camp 2016 - 1º turn [Days 9 and 10]

Hello again! We have just passed the middle of the camp! On Wednesday morning we had a very special day: family day. On this day, our volunteers are divided into couples and sent to spend the morning with a local familly. This way, they learn how they work, what they do and what is their lifestyle in Monleras. Some of them have been taking care of cows or sheep, whereas others have learnt basic skills in a vegetable garden. Then they had lunch with the families, such a nice morning! In the afternoon we had a workshop about soap using recycled oil, and at night we played a mystery gymkhana with the children from the village, where they had to find out what happened to 5 poor children who disappeared 80 years ago from the village.

On Thursday we kept on working and, as the volunteers were quite tired, we decided to give them a relaxed day. In the afternoon we went to the swimming pool which is in a village 5km away from Monleras, called Sardón de los Frailes, and we gave them the night free to just chill out and rest. Hola de nuevo! Acabamos de pasar la mitad del campo! El miércoles por la mañana tuvimos un día muy especial: el día de las familias. En este día, nuestros voluntarios son divididos en parejas y se van a pasar la mañana con una familia del pueblo. De este modo, aprenden cómo trabajan, qué es lo que hacen y cual es su estilo de vida en Monleras. Algunos de ellos han estado cuidando vacas u ovejas, mientras que otros han aprendido cosas básicas del cuidado del huerto. Luego comieron con las familias, vaya mañanita! Por la tarde hicimos un taller de jabón usando aceite reciclado, y por la noche hicimos una gymkhana misteriosa con los chavales del pueblo en la que tenían que descubrir qué les ocurrió a 5 pobres niños que desaparecieron hace 80 años del pueblo.

El viernes seguimos trabajando y, como los voluntarios estaban bastante cansados, decidimos darles un día relajadito. Por la tarde fuimos a la piscina que está en un pueblo a 5km de Monleras, llamado Sardón de los Frailes, y les dimos la noche libre para que se relajaran y descansaran un poco.
